HHWP Community Action Commission is providing free tax assistance to residents of Hancock, Hardin, Wyandot and Putnam Counties. Our free tax assistance program helps low-to-moderate income individuals/families who need help filing their Federal and state income taxes, but cannot afford to pay a preparer. There is a great need for these types of assistance programs in our area, but we cannot make this happen without help from the community. The HHWP CAC is searching for volunteers who are interested in being trained as tax counselors with The Ohio Benefit Bank. Counselors will not be required to sign returns, and prior tax experience is not necessary. The only prerequisite needed is a good working knowledge of computers and some free time. Tax counselors must also be 18 years of age. All first year tax counselors will be required to take a tax training to become certified in counseling taxes using the OBB tax software. Trainings can be taken online at your convenience, or in-person training can be provided by trained OBB staff. The training will give volunteers a basic background in taxes and training using the OBB tax software. Training is free. Volunteers can earn six credit hours of continuing education through the Center for Financial Certifications. For more information, or to schedule a training, please contact Amber Hirt; HHWP CAC Ohio Benefit Bank Coordinator, at 419-423-3755 ext. 223, or by E-mail at ahirt@hhwpcac.com .
