The MIT AgeLab conducts research about transportation, health & wellness, caregiving, decision-making, and technology as it relates to aging across the lifespan. The AgeLab is piloting a multigenerational partnership initiative called OMEGA (Opportunities for Multigenerational Exchange, Growth, and Action), a project aimed at creating meaningful relationships across generations.
The MIT AgeLab is reaching out to high schools in and around Boston to recruit student leaders interested in working with local senior organizations. Examples of multigenerational activities include volunteer service opportunities, event-planning with local senior organizations, technology training with older adults, and intergenerational creative media projects. The AgeLab is also seeking supervisors of organizations working with older adults who would be interested in hosting high school student volunteers and/or are already doing so.
If you are interested in the prospect of building multigenerational partnerships in and around your school/organization, we hope you will join us for the first annual OMEGA Summit at MIT on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. The summit will be an opportune time for students to work with--and learn from--peers at other schools who have already established similar programs. It will also provide a chance for students to interface with senior center staff and kickstart their partnerships. The summit will also be a wonderful opportunity to expand the activities offered at senior center organizations and to foster meaningful connections between teens and older adults in your town or city.
To learn more and/or register for the Nov. 2 nd summit, please e-mail Julie at omegamit@mit.edu or call (617) 253-3506.
