Every Sunday in November and December, volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve meals Hillcrest House Transitional Living Community. Hillcrest House offers a supportive environment for adults transitioning out of homelessness. Residents work with Case Managers who assist them in obtaining community services and in pursuing their goals of achieving greater self-sufficiency and finding more permanent housing.
Shifts run from 1:30-6:00 pm and a maximum of 4 volunteers (ages 18) are needed each Sunday. Hillcrest House is located at 28 Snow Terrace in Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Volunteers should park in the lot, enter through the main doors and check-in with the front desk staff.
Tasks may include food preparation, setting tables, serving meals, and clean-up tasks. Work is performed in a kitchen with minimal supervision. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes, comfortable clothing, and will be provided hairnets and gloves.
Hillcrest House serves around 60 adults every night. Though not required, volunteers are invited to bring a dessert for the residents if they are able.
