ORGANIZATION: BCCC Refugee Youth Project

RYP is looking for an volunteer to assist the organization in establishing a business model for ArtWorks, our newest social entrepreneurship initiative. RYP utilizes arts integration when working with newly arrived refugees to help them address the social challenges of living in a new country.

The ArtWorks program will focus on providing an integrated curricula of arts skill-building within the framework of marketing, budgeting, promoting, and selling produced goods. The arts and crafts made by youth will be sold at local Art/Community markets, as well as online, with the goal of generating funding to provide you with stipends. The volunteer would work in collaboration with RYP staff to develop the framework and structure of this program, and can also assist in the creative/production aspect of the program if desired.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Continue the development business plan for selling items
  • Create database for tracking inventory and sales
  • Assist with planning budgets and financial planning
  • Assist in development of an introductory curriculum to teach ESL learners basics of running a small business
  • Co-facilitate curricula one day a week (if interested)

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Business background, one year experience beyond Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with non-profits (ideal but nor required)
  • Experience with developing and managing budgets
  • Desire to empower youth through teaching introductory business skills
  • Good communication skills (writing and speaking)
  • Comfort working in a team environment
  • Has own transportation and can work independently
  • Interested in working with diverse populations

Description

RYP is committed to its mission of creating a safe environment for refugee children to improve their literacy skills, enhance their knowledge of American culture, engage in enriching extracurricular activities, and grow to be confident, caring individuals. Each year, we serve over 300 students from ages 4-21 through quality services including after-school tutoring, mentoring, summer school, community arts, and social enterprise programs. Our students come from over 17 different countries, including Bhutan, Burma, Iraq, Eritrea, Congo, Syria, and Sudan.
