Volunteer in SERC’s Photobiology Lab
We are looking for skilled volunteers to help out in SERC’s Photobiology Lab, directed by Dr. Pat Neale. The lab focuses on the impacts of solar radiation on plants and animals. Learn more about the science behind the lab activities here (https://serc.si.edu/labs/photobiology-and-solar-radiation).
Who: Volunteers with experience in computer programming for control of electronic instruments such as voltmeters using HPIB, SCPI, and/or Labview.
All volunteers will also be encouraged to participate in other lab activities that they find interesting.
When: The volunteers would work with Dr. Neale to find a mutually agreeable schedule. In general, volunteers would be asked to commit at least 10-12 hours per month Tuesdays-Saturdays.
Where: The work occurs on the campus of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater, MD. Volunteers would work indoors in laboratory environments.

Description
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) is looking for people who are interested in participating in environmental science research. Volunteer opportunities can accommodate a variety of interests including working in the laboratory or the field on topics ranging from colonial archaeology to forest biodiversity to water quality. We are also looking for volunteers to assist in our education department and assist with activities like leading field trips and canoe excursions, helping in classrooms, and maintaining aquariums and gardens. No specific experience is required and all appropriate training will be provided.
