Purpose of Position: The Community Outreach and Marketing Intern reports to the Program Coordinator and will be dedicated to engaging the community within the San Diego River watershed, with the purpose of raising public awareness and getting people involved with the mission of the San Diego River Park Foundation. They will help to plan and implement opportunities to involve the public including signing of petitions, sharing information about the River Trail and Park System, tabling, and special events. Interns may also take on education program research and development.

Description of Duties:

  1. Inform and engage community members within the San Diego River watershed through tabling events, presentations, and one on one conversation with the public.
  2. Distributing event flyers throughout the watershed.
  3. Seeking out and planning opportunities to get in front of the community.
  4. Data entry and database management using established protocols.
  5. Assisting with special events that engage the community.
  6. Researching and developing educational programs as needed

Time Commitment: 8 - 10 hours per week. Includes some weekends

Qualifications:

- Must be at least 18 years of age

- Must have reliable transportation

- Must believe in the mission and share the values of the SDRPF and have a passion for the environment

- Ability to represent the SDRPF in a positive light through one on one conversation and public speaking

- Share an energy and enthusiasm that will inspire people to take action

- Able to work as part of a team and show leadership qualities

- Willingness to learn new skills

- Professional demeanor, positive and friendly personality

Description

We organize many different volunteer stewardship activities each month. River Cleanups, native plant gardening, habitat restoration, volunteer leadership, water quality testing, outreach and education, special event committees, technical committees and more.
