Watershed Stewardship Backpack

Tamarisk is a hardy invasive shrub from the Mediterranean, that can take over in riparian areas where steam flows are disrupted or unpredictable by out competing natives, usurping water supplies and salinating nearby soils.
You've probably wanted to try stewardship backpacking, we know you have, and here's a great opportunity. This is a 4-mile hike in and out along a trail through rugged and beautiful backcountry in the Los Padres National Forest. We're heading directly for a tamarisk-infested area where we'll use lightweight hand tools, cutting it to grade.
We'll camp overnight just upstream from there, enjoy feasting and the company of great people, and the star-filled milky-way, hiking out the next day. You'll need simple, lightweight backpacking gear, warm layers and sturdy boots.
This trip has changed the lives of several volunteers, and you too could join that club. Test out your latest gear or friend. Find out about stewardship backpacking, and adventure you'll never forget.
Please shoot us an email if you need gear (we have stuff to loan) or have questions about participating. Habitat Works Volunteers have removed invasive weeds from 297 miles of mountain streams since 2003 .
