FAR is in need of enthusiastic volunteers for Friday Night Parties. They are held once a month on the 3rd Friday of each month. The party starts at 6:00 and ends at 9:00PM. At the parties our special needs participants, ages 13 and older, will have the chance to socialize with peers while engaging in fun games/activities, arts and crafts, as well as dancing. Dinner and dessert are also provided!
We ask volunteers to arrive at 5:00PM to help with set up and decorating. Cleaning up after usually goes until 9:30PM. During the party we need our volunteers to help encourage socialization and assist the participants with some of the activities in addition to serving dinner and decorating the auditorium. Not only will you have a fun time but dinner is also FREE to all volunteers!
This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in the community while having fun!
**Students in high school and college can earn volunteer hours and experience working with the special needs population.

Mission Statement
Enriching the lives of individuals with special needs, regardless of age, through the power of creative arts and recreational therapies.
Description
FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing a space for folks with special needs to enrich their lives. Founded in 1951, we work with clients of all ages, introducing them to new activities and experiences, helping them gain a deeper understanding of themselves and showing them new ways to communicate how they feel.
Through the dedication of our highly-trained staff and the support of partners and collaborating organizations throughout Metro Detroit, we offer music, art, dance/movement and recreational therapy for children and adults with a variety of special needs diagnoses. We go into schools in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties to provide music, art, dance/movement and recreational therapy for students receiving special education services. We work to expose our clients to new avenues of expression which serve to improve how they relate and interact with their environments and families.
