PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Assist Red Cross in delivering mission by alleviating human suffering caused by disasters.
OPEN TIME DAYS
Varies.
It is recommended that local disaster responders take training in one of the following mass care volunteer roles.⦆ The Disaster Services Overview class is prerequisite to⦆any class.
Sheltering (SH) - Individuals help provide a positive and supportive shelter environment for people displaced due to disaster.⦆ Interacts with clients and allows clients to be heard; keeping an open door attitude for questions & concerns.
Required Training:
- Shelter Fundamentals (online or classroom)
- Psychological First Aid (classroom)
- Feeding Fundamentals (online)
- Serving People with Functional and Access Needs in Shelters (online)

Feeding (FF) - Ability to understand and follow safe food handling procedures; prepare, handle and serve food, beverages and snacks; ability to track meals, beverages and snacks properly and prepare timely reports.
Required Training:
- Feeding Fundamentals (online)
- Basic Food Safety (online)

Required Training for Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV):
Above courses in addition to the following:
- ERV: Ready, Set, Roll (classroom)
- Defensive Driving (chapter required)
- CPR (classroom)

Bulk Distribution (BD) - Ability to prioritize tasks, resources and requests to best meet the needs of the clients, Red Cross workers and partners (i.e., mover, dispatcher, delivery agent, warehouse worker).⦆ Individual demonstrates proficiency in identifying, organizing, planning, and allocating resources.⦆

- Logistics: An Overview (classroom)
- Bulk Distribution Fundamentals (online)
