Court Appointed Special Advocates are highly trained volunteers serving as the voice for children who are in the system due to abuse or neglect. 30 hours of classroom training, and 10 hours of courtroom observation is required. Once sworn in by the court, volunteers average about 12-18 hours a month. Must be 21 years of age.

Description

The CAN Council is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the Great Lakes Bay Region dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect through its nationally-accredited and award-winning education, awareness, intervention and advocacy programs. It is the only nonprofit organization in the Great Lakes Bay Region devoted to this cause. Founded in 1979, the CAN Council has consistently grown over the past 34 years to meet the needs of the community’s children and families.

Children's Advocacy Centers - CAC's provides a safe, supportive environment in which children who have been sexually or physically abused or have widnessed a violence can be interviewed and examined.

Child Abuse Prevention Education - CAPE work to find ways to prevent child abuse throught a variety of presentations, trainings and collaborations with other agencies.

Court Appointed Special Advocates - CASA's are highly trained volunteers serving as the voice for children who are in the system due to abuse or neglect.

Community Outreach/Awarenss -Involvement in collaborative community events and activities. Pinwheel for Prevention.
