Volunteers will work with our Adult learners who are studying for the High School Equivalency Test (HISET). Courses cover all topics that are seen on the test- social studies, mathematics, science,reading comprehension and writing.
Volunteers will work in small groups with the students either before or after their classes. Material for each session will be provided by the students with support from the faculty.
Volunteers will help build student's confidence and academic performance.
time commitment- at minimum 1 hour per week, at maximum 3 hours per week

Description
The Adult Education Center at STCC is in place to ensure that adult residents (18 or over) in the city of Springfield can obtain the necessary academic skills needed to pass the HISET ( High School Diploma Equivalency Credential) in order to enroll in a career training program or to enroll in college.
Volunteers will help serve part one of VISTA's two part mission- To Build Capacity. The volunteers will work closely with students and the center's Volunter Support Specialist/VISTA member. Volunteers will help students to move through the program by increasing their confidence in their academic performances.
