The animals at Elmira's need someone to help get their food! Since they can't go to the store themselves, they rely on us humans to go get it.
Volunteers make weekly trips to various locations to pick up meat, produce and other items used to feed and care for our animals. They then sort and prep it for feeding.
This is probably the most important job at the sanctuary, next to animal keeper. And not everyone can do it. It does require pushing, pulling and lifting. But the animals can't do it for themselves - they need you.
One of the benefits of this position is the camaraderie with the other volunteers who do this. It really does take a special breed.
If you are available on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, let us know! You can download the volunteer app at http://www.elmiraswildlife.org/pdf/volunteerApplication.pdf
