My oldest son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 14. He had been experiencing flu like symptoms for a week so he was being treated for the flu. He had just had a complete physical the week before he became ill. One day we noticed a significant weight loss, I mean SIGNIFICANT, he was skeletal and could barely lift his head, at that point we went to the ER, he was alert and could stand with help. When we got there they immediately took him in the back. When the doctor saw him he told me to wait a second and they took him into a room. The doctor came back and said Mrs. Davis your son has diabetes and God is literally cradling your son as his sugar is 1251. My knees buckled because I knew what all that meant as I have dealt with this within my family. He then asked alot of questions and explained to me that all of my sons pancreas cells were destroyed so he would be on insulin for the rest of his life. He left the hospital having to give himself insulin shots 4 times a day as the doctors told him this would be his life. Well MY GOD told him something different. He is now 21 and takes insulin in the morning and at night (twice a day). He has his bad days but for the most part he is doing great, he is very active, works hard and loves life. The doctors said because he was diagnosed in his teen years that he would probably rebel, not take care of himself and would not make it past 20! HA......again MY GOD said different!
I have made it my mission to research this every since, I participate in the walks, I donate and now I want to bring awareness to others......I am looking for:

The mission of Valuable Blessings, Inc. Nonprofit Organization is to intervene and counsel at-risk, off-track, economically disadvantaged youth populations with a variety of services, including mentoring, cultural awareness, cooking classes and academic enrichment. We seek to overcome what has become a major obstacle to organizations and social service agencies that provide services to these individuals by creating an organizational paradigm that eradicates the negative attitudes and low-self esteem that permeate the minds of so many of these at-risk youth.

Valuable Blessings, Inc., a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Prince George's County, Maryland, has implemented a new grassroots cooking, tutorial and mentoring program targeted toward at-risk and underachieving youth in Capitol Heights and District Heights, Maryland. Valuable Blessings, Inc. is a faith-based community-based organization that is dedicated to working with other community-based organizations and educational institutions in an effort to improve the academic performance, cultural awareness and life skills of students throughout Prince George's County, Maryland.
