When Hagley's guests enter the fully functioning 1870s Machine Shop their eyes light up--it is definitely a WOW! moment. Share the excitement with Hagley's visitors by demonstrating the machines at work, powered by the newly restored turbine which has returned water power to the Machine Shop. Tell the vital stories of the millwrights, machinists and apprentices who made the work of the duPont black powder manufactory possible.
Qualifications: Good public speaking skills, enjoy talking with and listening to people and sharing information in a pleasant and accurate manner. Be able to operate the machinery and kerosene lamps. Prior experience with machine tools helpful but not necessary--full training is provided (October 30 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm). Knowledge of tools and machinery must be developed in order to properly and safely demonstrate the machinery. Shifts vary. One to three days a month. Scheduling is flexible. Ability to lift up to twenty pounds.

Hagley Museum and Library collects, preserves, and interprets the unfolding history of American enterprise. Hagley is located on 235 acres by the Brandywine River in Wilmington, Delaware.
Description
Located on 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine River in Wilmington, Delaware, Hagley is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E. I. du Pont in 1802. This example of early American industry includes restored mills, a workers' community, and the ancestral home and gardens of the du Pont family.
Hagley's library furthers the study of business and technology in America, especially the Middle Atlantic region. The collections include individuals' papers and companies' records ranging from eighteenth-century merchants to modern telecommunications and illustrate the impact of the business system on society.
The Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society organizes and administers the Hagley Museum and Library's interaction with the world of scholarship. It brings attention to Hagley's research collections and generates intellectual dialogue at Hagley.
