ORGANIZATION: Young Ladies of Tomorrow, Inc.

Young Ladies of Tomorrow’s mission is to serve as an alternative to the juvenile justice system for adolescent females from underserved communities through a trauma-informed holistic approach to youth development programming that empowers each young lady to successfully transition into womanhood.

Young Ladies of Tomorrow is currently seeking self-motivated professionals who desire to impact their communities through a very unique and rewarding volunteer leadership position.

The YLOT board is responsible for strategic and organizational planning, ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management, fundraising and resource development, approving and monitoring YLOT’s programs and services, enhancing YLOT’s public image, and assessing YLOT’s performance.

All board members support the leadership team and provide guidance to the Executive Director. Each individual board member is expected to:

  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, program, and needs.
  • Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements.
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for YLOT to advance its mission.
  • Leverage connects, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve YLOT’s mission.
  • Help identify connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and can influence public policy.
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings.
  • Participate fully in one or more committees.
  • Get to know other board members to build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
  • Actively participate in annual evaluation and planning efforts.
  • Donate at least $500 a year to the organization.

All Board members are expected to:

  • Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions.
  • Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization.

The board desires diversity in thought, skills, experience, and background.

Mission Statement

YLOT program services provide an enriching forum for its program participants by introducing them to basic life skills, therapeutic recreation, workforce development, community service and cultural activities.

Description

YLOT's goal is to recognize each girl's issue, whether emotional and/or physical abuse, intimacy with street life, teen pregnancy, addiction, or low self-esteem (self image) and focus on discovering relevant and creative solutions. YLOT also encourages girls to examine their interests for the purpose of setting achievable short and long term goals. YLOT believes that when girls recognize the depth of their potential and govern themselves accordingly, they will become productive self-sufficient citizens and contribute to the enhancement of the community at large.
