HOURS: Need to be Flexible - Monday thru Sunday / September 2014 - September 2015

PAY RATE: Internship

Arts East New York (AENY)’s fifth year as an organization marks an exciting period of dramatic growth as we launch the [re]New Lots Market & Artist Incubator. Funded in part by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, this mobile model for neighborhood revitalization will activate two vacant lots towards leveraging socially engaged artists, supporting local entrepreneurs, and building community. As a one-stop shop anchored in the arts and rooted in community, [re]New Lots will create constant interplay between the arts and entrepreneurship, resulting in a renewable cycle of creativity, trade, and social exchange. All economic and artistic activity will be cultivated by a professional development support system consisting of training's, workshops, lectures, and networking events. In return for free professional development and below-market studio rental space, ten participating artists will lead unique collaborative projects directly engaging a wide range of East New York youth and positively impacting the community’s visual environment.

Job Specifications

We are looking for an event planner; someone who is has an artistic eye and is able to take initiative with different themes and ideas. Open- minded and eager to learn new things. This job is just right for someone not looking for a conventional job but something that will be challenging and rewarding both at the same time.

Qualifications:

- We need an experienced Event Planner/Coordinator to help our not-for-profit arts organization make these events a huge success.

- Plan and organize weekly events to draw a crowd to the reNew Lots Market space ie movie nights, concerts, community performers

- Come up with themes to decorate the outdoor communal space that will drive participants to location for pictures and viewings ie Santa Claus Station, Easter Egg Hunt

- Willing to learn new concepts and expand thinking on the endless possibilities of events

- Can work on their own and able to work in a larger group

- Has connections to and within different cultural communities

- The event planners and coordinators are responsible for planning events, talking to vendors, helping to set up and decorate for events.

- Coordinating all duties that go into putting together events and fundraisers to make sure they run smoothly.

- Plan event Dates and alternate dates throughout the week and weekend

- Arrange art work, tables & chairs

- Arrange event support

- Signage

- Clean-up

- Plans, organizes, coordinates, promotes, and facilitates events

- Establishes budget and timelines and contacts speakers and performers

- Schedules and maintains communication with speakers, vendors, and participants

- Coordinates and monitors event timeline

- Reviews and analyzes post show metrics

- Follow- ups and post show thank you’s

- Assists in preparing a variety of publications, materials, and programs for events

- Initiates, coordinates and/or participates in all efforts to publicize promotion of all events

Our organization runs the following programs:

Community Events

"ARTsPLOTION"

Annual Holiday Tree lighting ceremony designed to expose the community to the artistic resources that exsist locally and unite to change the socio-economic issues that hinder our growth.

"Summer Saturdaze"

This 8-week event series takes place each Saturday from July to August at The East New York Farmers Market (613 New Lots Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11207).

Our audience can enjoy performances that are typically not accessible our affordable for the residents o this community.

The purpose of this concert event series is to not only provide access and affordability to high quality artistic performances it is used as a tool for creating social change within our community

"Mural Mile"

This initiative transforms Livonia Ave. from beginning to end into public art (murals etc.) exhibition space. We work with city and state agencies to renovate the safety and infrastructure of this major East New York thoroughfare.

"Art Installationz"

This program is designed to partner local artists with local merchants in an effort to boost our local economics and encourage our cultural preservation.
