To connect the senior with children
The create meaningful relationships with children who have special needs
To provide extra care and attention to children who have exceptional needs by providing love, encouragement and companionship on a one on one
Activities:
Listening and talking
Mentoring and Tutoring
Modeling appropriate behaviors and skills
Encourage Socialization
Telling Stories
Reinforcing lessons taught by teachers
Assisting with reading and other academic subjects
Helping children to follow directions and accomplish work
Working in art/craft projects
This volunteer position pays a small stipend and reinburses for transportation. Must meet income qualifications.

The goal of the UCAN Foster Grandparent Program is to provide meaningful and challenging volunteer oportunities with a wide variety of special need children within their own comunities.
Description
The UCAN Foster Grandparent Program provides meaningful part or full time volunteer oportunities for limited income perssons age 55 and above. The Foster Grandparents provide supportive one on one attention to identified children in educational, head start and exceptional need settings. Services may include tutoring, mentoring, early intervention programs and teaching/supporting basic life skills to those who are physically/mentally challenged.
