ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

L.A. Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, volunteer action center that creates and implements hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. We strive to empower Angelenos to address pressing social issues through volunteerism & community collaborations.

Position Description: The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will focus on creating, compiling, drafting and disseminating core marketing campaigns to our corporate and community volunteers and nonprofit partners. This allows our volunteers and supporters to stay connected to L.A. Works and the broader nonprofit and service-related community, offering them ways to volunteer, meet other people, gain new skills and feel welcomed. A key part of the position will be developing creative and engaging methods to share our story, news and resources in order to keep people mobilized and involved. The position will get the opportunity of learning the innerworkings of volunteerism and the world of nonprofit. We're a fast-paced, energetic office open to new ideas to expand our programs. If you love community service and have a knack for storytelling and design this opportunity could be for you! We look for experiences and interests that will be a great fit for both organization and applicant.

Responsibilities: The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for outreaching, recruiting, and researching for our large annual events such as our Beer Garden fundraiser and MLK Jr. Day of Service. They will also assist in establishing a strong social media presence to strengthen these campaigns. Other marketing campaigns including special event invitations may also be included.

Requirements: Passion for community service. Excellent written communication. Knack for creativity and design. Comfortable taking initiative. Ability to multi-task. Good organizational skills and attention to details and deadlines. Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Enthusiastic and eager to learn. Knowledgeable about the Los Angeles nonprofit landscape. Graphic design and writing background a plus.

Equipment Requirements: Laptop and internet access.

Hours: Dependent on deadlines. The position will be guided less by the number of hours per week, but by deadlines set. It'll be up to the Intern to set their own hours in order to get the projects completed. Typically, interns commit 10-15 hours per week.

Compensation: Unpaid. We can provide school credit, but all applicants must make their own arrangements with their host institution. Volunteers will benefit from this great learning experience, enhance their resumes, and build their personal and professional skills as they make a difference in the LA nonprofit community.

Location: This position can be executed at any desired location. Though we encourage interns to work in our office space on a regular basis, we’re flexible. The L.A. Works headquarters is in Cypress Park, close to Elysian Park at the NE corner of Dodger Stadium. We are accessible by the gold line.

Duration: We look for at least a three-month commitment, but if there’s a good fit, encourage candidates to stay longer.

Application Procedure: E-mail a resume, cover letter and writing samples (bonus if the sample is marketing related) outlining your interest, skills, availability and desired start/end dates.
