ORGANIZATION: Junior Achievement of Arizona

In this Junior Achievement of Arizona program, high school students will learn about the stock market as an integral part of the free enterprise system during five required volunteer-led classroom sessions. JA Take Stock In Your Future is a volunteer-led curriculum that immerses students in stock market basics and provides guidance as students prepare for the JA Student Stock Market Challenge, a highly interactive simulation of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) held off-site. The volunteer returns to the classroom after the simulation to lead reflection on the students’ experience in the context of personal financial decisions.

More information on Junior Achievement:

We place volunteers in classrooms to lead preplanned lessons that educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics, and become workforce ready. As a Junior Achievement volunteer you will make a difference in the lives of students by developing:

  • The desire in young people to stay in school and appreciate lifelong learning.
  • Positive attitudes in young people toward work and toward contributing to a diverse society.
  • Business and education partnerships that create a bridge between the classroom and the workplace.

JA will provide training and all the materials.

Mission Statement

Junior Achievement: Empowering young people to own their economic success.

Description

Did you know that the majority of Arizona CEOs believe employees lack critical skills that are needed to succeed in the workplace? More than half of adults under 30 do not keep a personal budget, their average debt is over $45,000, and 12% of them don’t even have a job.

It’s our responsibility to empower future generations - to equip them with the skills and knowledge to be successful and pursue their dreams. These are our kids, grandchildren, our future colleagues, and community leaders. The success of our economy depends on their preparedness.

With the support of thousands of education, business, and volunteer partners, we are giving kids the tools to succeed. Our volunteer mentors from the community teach students about the importance of money management, workforce readiness, and entrepreneurial thinking. Arming today’s youth with this critical education will result in less financial instability and debt, a better-trained workforce, a more robust economy, and healthier families.
