We need dynamic and strong leaders to help with our 22 annual event to celebrate our Veterans, Active Duty, Reservist and Retired Military Personnel, for their service to our country.
The Veterans' Holiday Celebration supports our community's citizens in demonstating their love and support for our military veterans and their families.
Our planning meeting start in September on Saturday mornings and will grow to approximately 800 volunteers by the day of the event which is held on December 7, Pearl Harbor Day this year. This is the largest all volunteer event of its kind in the country!
Are you good at preparing and serving food, arranging venues, putting up decorations, filling gift bags for Veterans, set-up and clean up? Bring your unique skills, share them with the community in producing our event.
Volunteers work in 4 hour shifts, starting Friday 12/5 at 9am for inventory as deliveries of equipment, food, rentals arrive and placing them where they will be set up.
Saturday, 12/6 at 8am starts MAJOR SETUP. We are looking specifically for people to lead and/or work to set up the event: tables and chairs, food service and kitchen areas, stage and entertainment areas, volunteer staging area, as well as people to fill care packages for veterans, putting up signage and decorating the site.
Sunday, 12/7 starting at 8am, DAY OF EVENT. Volunteers will concentrate on food preparation, last minute setup, preparing the volunteer area to accept and sign in over 800 volunteers, registering and welcoming the Veterans and their families, handing out care packages to veterans, visiting veterans in the hospital (Spirit Team), serving food on the buffet line, emptying trash/recycling bins, and directing people to the entertainment area where volunteers will serve dessert and enjoy the entertainment. Last, but not least, the Strike or Cleanup Crew, handles taking down and repacking decorations, stacking chairs and tables and washing out chaffing dishes to go back to rental, washing utensils, packaging unused food and leftovers for Food Pantry Pickup and garbage detail including recycling.
Check out our website www.VHCevent.org where you can see pictures from past events and register to volunteer.
