WRC is currently enrolling individuals to serve as AmeriCorps members! WRC AmeriCorps members serve in elementary schools and early learning centers tutoring struggling readers and helping students achieve grade level. Members also recruit community volunteers to be reading tutors and participate in family literacy events. Members are 17 years and older (no upper age limit), serve as a volunteer for 10 months, full-time. The WRC program provides a modest monthly living stipend ($1155 pre-tax), health insurance if the individual does not already have health insurance and provides training. Members are also eligible for student loan forbearance and payment of accrued interest during their term of service and, upon successful completion, will receive a $5,645 education award that can be used for future tuition or to pay student loans. Members with children who are also income eligible can receive childcare assistance.
If you or someone you know is interested in education and wants to make a difference in the lives of young students, please contact Terri Jack at tjack@esd.wa.gov or by phone at 360-407-1349 for more information. You may also visit the Washington Reading Corps website to learn more.
