Ever want to drive across the USA? Well, this is your chance! We need a someone who has a sense of adventure as we Race Across the USA! Our cause is childhood obesity. Duties include driving and supporting runners as they cross the country. This unprecedented opportunity starts on January 15 and ends on June 3, 2015. We will start in Huntington Beach, CA and meander through the back roads and highways all the way to Washington DC. The full route includes: CA, AZ, NM, TX, LA, AR, MS, AL, GA, SC, NC, VA, MD. Rest days have been added so that runners can visit schools along the way. Ten athletes will run the entire course. Up to 20 others may sign up to run a state. On Day 140, the runners will also stop at the White House in Washington D.C. to show our appreciation for the First Lady's support of this important issue. The Race Directors just drove the route backwards in April/May. Along the way, they met local officials, members of the press and visited with schools. They received a warm welcome from everyone including the Mayor of Raleigh, NC, the Mayor of Greenwood, MC, the Mayor's office in Ft. Worth, TX, the Mayor Pro-Tem of Roswell, NM as well as the mayor in Payson, AZ. Surprisingly, they were interviewed twice by members of the local press in Sanford, NC and Roswell, NM. Both interviews made it in the newspaper. In fact, the story in New Mexico made the front page! Try to imagine what a splash this event will make when up to 30 runners run through their town!! Requirements: Looking for someone who is able bodied, can lift up to 20 lbs at once, be a licensed driver (any state) and have auto insurance. (Gas and lodging will be reimbursed.) If you are also interested in helping to plan this event, please mention this (this work can be performed from home by phone).

Mission Statement

Our mission is to spark a physical activity revolution across the United States by creating low-cost, family-friendly running and walking events that appeal to all ages, especially today's youth.

Description

We are a mission-driven organization who aims to have large-scale, positive health outcomes in the communities in which we operate. If some path will result in a greater impact in terms of the number of participants and/or the amount of good we do, we will favor this course of action. This includes our events or the amount of money we raise for our charity partner. If forced to choose, we weigh the impact of children higher than adults.

Our organization is volunteer run. While we do pay the Race Director a small stipend to maintain continuity, nearly everyone else is an unpaid volunteer. We seek to create a win-win environment where staff volunteers and interns can learn and grow in skills and experience with a time commitment as little as 2-4 hours/week. We specifically look for folks who want to give back, those who believe in our cause and those that with benefit in other ways outside of monetary compensation. We will write a recommendation letter after 90 days of satisfactory work.

Our events are built around the local community. The name of the event includes the name of the city where it is held, and we hire a local and race director. We partner with local businesses to finance our event. We also partner with a local charity for race-day volunteers and to receive funds raised.
