Summary: English language instruction is the number one tool that new immigrants must have to integrate into their communities. Functional command of the English language is the basis for many other assimilation opportunities. The ESOL course offers adult residents much needed access, exposure, and training to better support their efforts to participate fully in the region's workforce by increasing employability and attaining economic independence.

Purpose: Instruct adult residents in Wesley Housing’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program.

Key Responsibilities:

Teach adult students with varied English skill levels in the following:

    • Reading, writing, speaking and comprehension

    • Basic interview skills

    • U.S. Citizenship test preparation

  • Teach in a small group class setting

  • Teach English to adults who speak Spanish as their first language

Required Skills:

  • Previous experience instructing ESOL in a class setting preferred

  • Possess ability to work with residents from diverse cultural backgrounds

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Be organized, reliable, and punctual

  • Be patient and sensitive to students’ needs
