Local non-profit organization, Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center, offering a children's program. We need Volunteers to make art mostly & teach manners! We offer programming on-site and at local schools in North Lawndale neighborhood. Our lead teacher shows you how it is done. You assist her. Down the road, you may also act as a substitute lead teacher.

We add to the programming of area schools. We also provide periodic workshops for neighborhood kids. When are you available? On site program is usually Saturday afternoons for 2 hours. 1:30-3:30

and off-site program at schools is in after school time slot periodically.

Hello, thanks for your interest in working with children. We are looking for adults to volunteer with inner city kids in small group setting mostly in area of art, recycling, peace, positive self esteem. Can you help this winter season? We use a Team Approach using volunteer mentors with a peaceful curriculum. If interested, please plan to attend orientation on a Sat. or Wed. at noon. RSVP. Make sure you can make it, as we prefer not to re-schedule.

Have fun volunteering with other adults working with a small group of children helping them to be proud of themselves and grow up strong and creative! lots of one on one time. Our site is Urban Art Retreat, 1957 S. Spaulding Ave. Chicago, Il. 60623 corner of 21st, just 2 short blocks from Kedzie stop on pink line.

Schools in area. We teach peace practices like mindful breathing, yoga, relaxation, and conflict resolution. In addition we lead art-making sessions for kids to make art using recycled objects. Plus, we show children how to present themselves in a positive light and put their best foot forward. We want them to succeed and to depend on themselves for success.

Would you like to become part of this process? We need volunteers who are 18 years & older with skills such as patience, who enjoy working with kids to help our program succeed. Mission Statement

Chicago URBAN ART RETREAT Center (CUARC) provides rooms for women. CUARC also provides safe space for people who are different from each other to enjoy & learn from each other. CUARC celebrates multiculturalism, diversity, and non-violence. We provide opportunities for people to learn about and practice peace. We encourage our volunteers to learn about social justice issues and the isms to spread this information to others.

Description

In addition to a women's residence on the second floor, we offer an art gallery for under-represented artists, and art studio for non-artists. CUARC offers a variety of programs geared to the under represented and to educate the public about under represented populations. At our own site and at sites of other non-profits, CUARC programs include: art workshops & classes for non-artists, support & education for entrepreneurs, art shows by under represented people (people with mental illnesses, people of color, non-artists, survivors of trauma, immigrants, lesbians, gays, & seniors). Social opps. for people who are different from each other to attend, enjoy each other, and learn from each other are offered monthly. Non-violence and tolerance is encouraged at all activities.
