Recruiting Chicago black artists now for this show as part of Chicago Artists month. Please look on our website www.urbanartretreat.com for the guidelines to enter your art. The first step is to send images of your art to our curator. We will also make an appt. for you to bring your art in person for consideration if you cannot email images of your art.

Send images now via email. You can bring your actual art for the show to the gallery on October 11 at 2p.m. Plan to follow directions on how to enter and create inventory sheet & bring 2 copies with actual art to gallery. See directions on website page called "how to submit art".

If you would like to show your support for Chicago black artists, please plan to attend. Save the date: October 18 from 1-4 p.m. for the opening reception! Put it on your calendar!

Liz Long Gallery at Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center is now accepting submissions for our Annual Chicago Black Artists Show to take place in our gallery October & November 2014. This show is part of a city wide effort to feature art by Chicago artists in Chicago galleries.

This year's theme, The Black Experience. Please think about the theme and let's see what artwork you come up with for 2014! Please see the website for guidelines on how to submit to the art show. www.urbanartretreat.com

Mission Statement

Chicago URBAN ART RETREAT Center (CUARC) provides rooms for women. CUARC also provides safe space for people who are different from each other to enjoy & learn from each other. CUARC celebrates multiculturalism, diversity, and non-violence. We provide opportunities for people to learn about and practice peace. We encourage our volunteers to learn about social justice issues and the isms to spread this information to others.

Description

In addition to a women's residence on the second floor, we offer an art gallery for under-represented artists, and art studio for non-artists. CUARC offers a variety of programs geared to the under represented and to educate the public about under represented populations. At our own site and at sites of other non-profits, CUARC programs include: art workshops & classes for non-artists, support & education for entrepreneurs, art shows by under represented people (people with mental illnesses, people of color, non-artists, survivors of trauma, immigrants, lesbians, gays, & seniors). Social opps. for people who are different from each other to attend, enjoy each other, and learn from each other are offered monthly. Non-violence and tolerance is encouraged at all activities.
