Mission Statement
Using Seward Park as the primary classroom, the Center will inspire exploration, discovery, and stewardship of the natural world through enhanced learning and maturing experiences that promote healthy, sustainable communities.
Description
Seward Park Environmental and Audubon Center is a collaborative effort between Audubon Washington and Seattle Parks and Recreation, and is a part of the national Audubon vision to establish neighborhood nature education centers in urban areas of high ethnic diversity. Located on a 277-acre peninsula in southeast Seattle, Seward Park features the largest remaining stand of old-growth forest in the city, two active bald eagle nests, and a wide array of plants and animals. Surrounded on three sides by Lake Washington, it is truly a natural oasis in the heart of Seattle and is the perfect place to teach future generations about the importance of the natural world.
The Center provides programs for school, youth, and community audiences, and also hosts arts in the environment and special events. The Center includes exhibits, an extensive Natural History lending library, a laboratory, and a small gift shop and welcome center.
