ORGANIZATION: League to Save Lake Tahoe

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Lake Tahoe's largest volunteer restoration event, the 17th Annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day. Volunteers of all ages and skills are invited to restore trails, stabilize stream banks, remove invasive weeds, and construct fencing to protect sensitive areas. Make a direct impact in restoring the Upper Truckee River habitat that leads to Lake Tahoe.

Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and a resuable water bottle. Optional: if you have work gloves, shovels, hand pruners, trowels, and/or a hand pruning saw, feel free to bring those. We will provide lunch, refreshments and equipment.

Projects:

  • Trail Maintenance - Volunteers will add mulch to existing trails, build new trails to avoid sensitive stream bank environments, and decommission old trails that pass through fragile areas.
  • Invasive Weed Removal - Volunteers will work to remove noxious invasive weeds from the land surround the Upper Truckee River.
  • Fence Building - Join other volunteers in helping to construct wooden fencing to protect eroded river banks from overuse.
  • Willow Stake Preparation - Volunteers will create bundles of willow stakes that will be soaked in the river for six months before being planted along the river bank in the Spring.
