Special Events Intern

Non-Profit: National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Inland Empire Regional Office.

MS Society Information: The Chapter funds local programs and services for people with Multiple Sclerosis and their families, and supports the Society’s research mission to find a cure for this chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system.

Position Title: Special Events Intern

Location: Ontario (3110 E. Guasti Rd. Suite 320, Ontario, CA 91761)

Benefit: Course credit is available if student desires. We also will provide both written and verbal references. Past interns have secured jobs in special event planning, as well as non-profit jobs due to their internship at the MS Society.

Internship timeline: 13-15 weeks, depending on start date. (Jan-May)

Hours per week: Must commit to 10-15 hours per week.

Description: We are looking for an outgoing, passionate and persistent individual who is interested in Special Events planning and/or working for a non-profit. This is a fast-paced, fun job that is perfect for someone who has excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. We empower our interns by giving them a great deal of autonomy and real world experience. After this internship you will be ready for a position as a volunteer coordinator, special events coordinator, etc.

The Special Events Intern reports directly to the Development Manager/Director. She/he is responsible for assisting with the planning of three charity walks, the Inland Empire Walk, the Palm Desert Walk and the Big Bear Walk.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Event support leading up to and on the day of the event(s).
  • Recruit volunteers and assist with the communication and coordination of all details for event volunteers.
  • Maintain organized spreadsheet and calendar detailing what vendors/organizations have been contacted, their status, etc.
  • Contact potential vendors for in-kind donations (free goods and services).
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Answer questions from fundraisers and clients regarding walks.

Requirements:

  • Be able to work 10-15 hours a week.
  • MUST be comfortable speaking on the phone with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to navigate the internet as a communication and research tool.
  • Must be reliable and committed to completing a 13-15 week internship.
  • Good organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to events at different locations.

Description

The National MS Society helps each person affected by MS in our area address the challenges of living with MS. We help by raising funds for cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education and providing programs and services that empower people with MS and their families to move their lives forward.

Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to achieving a world free of MS. Through our chapter’s support services and educational programs for people living with MS and their families and friends, we help connect people in our local communities who want to do something about MS now.
