ORGANIZATION: Crisis Text Line

Crisis Text Line (CTL) is a nationwide, free, 24/7 text hotline for young people - connecting them with live counselors using teens’ #1 preferred form of communication: text.

Volunteer counselors use our web-based platform to answer text messages from young people (13-25) reaching out to CTL for help. We provide emotional support to young people who are dealing with a wide range of issues- bullying, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and more.

To find out more details, attend a virtual Info Session, or submit your application, visit: crisistext.org/volunteer.

No specific experience required, but volunteers must pass through a selection process and background check. We’ll provide all the training and support you need in order to make a difference, and a supervisor will always be there to guide you.

Approved volunteers will be able to work from home / anywhere with a secure internet connection. Sometimes groups of volunteers choose to meet up during their shifts or for training sessions.

New volunteers commit to one 4-hour shift per week for at least 12 months. Shifts are on weekends and evenings, which is when most teens are reaching out for help; shifts will be determined by need and your availability.

You can help a young person in crisis. If you are willing to listen and you text in your personal life, you have what it takes to be a great CTL Volunteer.
