Do you live or work in Richmond? Are you tired of seeing beer bottles, bags, wrappers, plastic bottles ruining the appearance of the city and potentially affecting the environment?! Come out and pick-up LITTER!
My name is Samira Squires and I am proposing an Anti-Litter Coalition here in Richmond, VA. If you would like to volunteer one Saturday or Sunday for about 2hrs to tackle this nuisance, we can slowly impact the presence of our city.
The city will provide large trash bags, grabbers, vest, and gloves. I will notify you VIA email of the project area and dates.
- We will receive recognition for our efforts
- You can become an official member of the coalition council
- We will tackle and impact problematic areas
- We will SHOW and set an example for the community
Long Term Goals: Remove litter> document > calculate waste. Demand signage: "Littering is Illegal, Fines from $250 to 2,500" Signs that may deter littering or make the public think TWICE. Work with the Police Department in litter enforcement. Notify City Council and the Mayor on our efforts - collaborate and enforce anti-litter efforts: Provide trash bins by GRTC stops, along Broad St., down Hull St. Receive a Beautification Award for the City of Richmond.
Yes, litter is only ONE of the issues here in Richmond, but volunteers are capable of mitigating this litter issue. The public as a whole will have a voice, we can request and demand change in our city, be the change you want to see!
Thank you for showing interest, I hope to see you soon.

About Operation Paintbrush
Location:
4062 Crockett Street, Henrico, VA 23273, US
Mission Statement
Offers Community Service through care and committment. Operation Paintbrush is funded through Henrico local government, in which we screen low income families or disabled homeowners and assist them with minor home repairs, including painting the exterior. We supply the paint and volunteers free of charge as long as they meet our requirements.
Description
Henrico County’s Community Maintenance staff has put together a program called "Operation Paintbrush". The purpose of this program is to paint the homes of needy citizens who are without adequate resources or family help, and whose homes are in danger of further deteriorating without assistance. Typically, they are senior citizens who can be classified as very low income.
Operation Paintbrush works in coordination with volunteer groups to assist Henrico’s citizens who cannot adequately care for their own homes. Paint projects range from half-day to two-day projects. Sometimes minor repairs are needed, but usually a volunteer group of 10 or more can make the necessary repairs and paint the home within one day. We’ve worked with local businesses such as Altria, NTT Data, and a variety of community organizations.
If you would like your group to become involved in our program, please call me at 501-7632, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8-4:30pm or respond to this email.
