Rebuilding Together Alexandria

Rebuilding Together Alexandria repairs homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilds lives. We are always excited by new, enthusiastic people who are looking to volunteer!

Welcome, the "Mod"ification Squad is a unique group of volunteers that are skilled in Safe & Healthy home repairs! From grab bars to small plumbing issues, the Mod Squad tackles it all. Many of our homeowners have tasks that could be accomplished by one or two knowledgeable volunteers, like yourselves, instead of a large team. This is a more independent volunteer opportunity that allows you to be flexible with your schedule. All homeowners are low-income and each are in need of a helping hand or hammer.

Do you have any plumbing experience or skills?

Do you have any carpentry experience or skills?

Are you experienced in home projects such as drywall repairs, grab bar installations or minor electrical repairs?

Do you have any handy man skills?

If you answered YES to any of the questions above we encourage you to contact us!!

Join our Mod Squad and make a difference in someone's life and home, your community needs you. This is about neighbors helping neighbors!

I’d also like to ask you to sign up for our e-newsletter located on our site. That way, you will receive an email whenever we are looking for group project for volunteers. Thank you again for your interest in volunteering and we look forward to hearing from you.

Mission Statement

Repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives. Our vision for DC and Alexandria is a vibrant community where people of all income groups and cultures live in safe and healthy homes. We are working towards this goal by: • Repairing and rehabilitating homes free of cost for those in need, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, military veterans, and families with children • Revitalizing communities by improving common spaces and schools serving low-income neighborhoods • Creating affordable housing in DC and Alexandria,VA

Description

Rebuilding Together was created out of a fundamental belief that all people deserve to live independently in safe, warm and comfortable housing. This is best accomplished by preserving the existing homes of homeowners in order to ensure that they are not forced to choose between home repairs and food, heat or medicine. The priorities for our work include emergency repairs, safety modifications, and energy efficiency upgrades.

Hundreds of volunteers associated with local companies, places of worship and community organizations work on National Rebuilding Day, the last Saturday of April. Last April, 880+ volunteers worked on 45 homes our community and provides a great team-building experience for our wonderful volunteer teams.
Throughout the past 33 years, Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria has played an integral part in keeping low-income homeowners in their own homes and non-profit organizations free of costly repair expenses in the City of Alexandria and the District of Columbia. On a larger scale, the work that we do on a year-round basis helps preserve home ownership and affordable housing in the City of Alexandria.
