PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Disaster Volunteers respond to disasters that happen in the local community to provide emergency assistance (shelter, food, clothing, medications and emotional support) to the people affected. The most common local disaster is home fires; however, volunteers also respond to larger community events such as apartment fires, flooding, winter storms, tornadoes, and other disasters. Volunteers also help with activities behind the scenes to ensure that Red Cross is ready to respond. Volunteers may choose to help with disaster relief operations outside of their community in addition to local response efforts. Leadership opportunities are also available.
OPEN TIME DAYS
Volunteers may choose to be part of a local disaster response team with a rotating on-call schedule.｠ Responses typically require a 3-4 hour commitment.｠ During larger community responses longer shifts may be needed.｠ Schedules are flexible.

REQUIRED TRAINING-Successful completion of a new volunteer application process including a background check.
