Groundswork

Irvine Nature Center is currently looking for individuals to help with Land Stewardship and Facilities. These volunteers will help our Land Steward and Facilities Manager with the following tasks:

  • Invasive management - removal, treatment, spraying, etc.
  • Weeding, mulching, mowing, weed eating
  • Pruning, trimming, reforestation management, wood cutting and splitting
  • Policing grounds for trash
  • Camp site prep and check
  • Event set ups and break downs
  • As needed janitorial work
Ideal hours 9-5 or 8-4, weekdays; some weekend and evening times

These volunteers are interested in land stewardship, conservation, land use, facilities, event logistics, and enthusiasm for working outside year-round with a diverse group of people. Undergraduates are encouraged to apply. Transportation from/to Stevenson University available; otherwise personal transportation required.

Description

Irvine Nature Center is a private, non-profit nature center located in Owings Mills, Maryland. We have 211 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows that support a diverse population of wildlife. We provide more than 800 environmental education programs annually to roughly 95,000 individuals of all ages. Our goal is to expose people to the importance of environmental literacy and show those visiting our property the importance of environmental stewardship. We aim to teach a concern for the planet that translates into actions that help preserve our ecosystem and create a healthier planet!
