Friends of the Parks, the Chicago Park District and volunteers need help spreading the fibar surfacing in the new Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago Plays! playground in Chopin Park.
Wondering what fibar is... fibar is the wood material that lies under and around swings, slides, monkey bars and other playground equipment.
These new playgrounds are part of an effort to replace 300 playgrounds over the next 5 years.
If you would like to get involved with this project, email Maria Stone at stonem@FOTP.org or call 312.857.2757 ext. 17

Mission Statement
Friends of the Parks (FOTP) has been Chicago's strongest public advocate for the protection, preservation and improvement of the city's lakefront, regional and neighborhood parks. Friends of the Parks' mission is to preserve, protect and improve these parks and to foster appreciation for the parks' many contributions to the quality of urban life. FOTP works to promote increased public/private commitment to our historic system of parks and open spaces.
Description
FOTP completes policy studies on public trust issues including legal analyses, as well as reports on park management and stewardship. We work with community groups and individuals to build a strong park constituency to participate meaningfully in neighborhood park decision-making process. We develop new pilot park programs, such as the successful after-school program for children, which the Park District later adopted in parks throughout the city. We organize and sponsor regular workshops, member forums, park tours and symposia to educate and publicize environmental and park issues.
