Urban Farm Build ( Oct 10, 2014)
Come help us create a farm-to-fork landscape for a client of Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services! This event is part of the Food Program's Garden Builds project, which helps clients who have completed the Introduction to Gardening class series and have a need for assistance in starting their own garden.
Volunteers are needed to:
- build a raised garden
- plant an orchard
- build compost bins
- and set up irrigation systems
Volunteers must be age 16 and up. No orientation required.
Event details:
This garden build is on Friday, October 10. Volunteers are needed from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.
The site of the build is in a client's backyard less than two miles from SFBFS' Oak Park campus.
Snacks and water will be provided.

Sacramento Food Bank Services (SFBS) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to assisting those in need by alleviating their immediate pain and problems, and moving people toward self-sufficiency and financial independence. SFBS accomplishes these goals by educating the community about health and nutrition in our demonstration garden; facillitating ESL instruction and GED prep tutoring; providing tools and resources for those seeking employment; providing parents with guidance and their infants with food and diapers; strengthening families through a program of ethics and self-esteem; providing early childhood education and after-school youth services; feeding the Hungry fresh, local produce; clothing the Poor; providing companionship to isolated seniors in the community; and providing high-tech knowledge for youth.
