Volunteer coaches needed to work with youths in grades 1 - 12 on recreational youth basketball teams, as both head and assistant coaches. Experience playing and knowledge of basketball is required. Experience coaching is helpful but not essential. Volunteers will teach basketball skills and game strategy.
The teams begin practicing in mid-November and games run through mid-March. Practice times are one hour per night, one or two nights a week (Younger grades (1-2) practice and play on Saturdays). 3rd grade games are Friday nights, games for grades 4-12 are usually on Saturday with some week nights (grades 4-5) or Sunday (grades 6-12) games. Coaches have input into their practice time(s) and can request game schedules that avoid personal weekend conflicts.
Volunteers must love working with children and possess patience, good sportsmanship and a positive attitude. High school students (age 16 and up) are strongly encouraged to volunteer to coach the younger (grades 1 - 3) teams.

Description
DPR offers youth and adult sports leagues and instruction; wellness programs, afterschool recreation programs for youth, preschool programs, extensive network of recreational and wellness services for senior citizens, stewardship of public land (adopt-a-park, remove invasive plants, nature centers), and visual arts volunteer opportunties.
