Every year, we run the 100 Mile Club Endurance Challenge. The route for the 100 Mile Club Endurance Challenge cuts through the heart and hugs the coast of Southern California. Athletes who participate in 100-mile race run through three counties and 20 cities. This event starts at the 100 Mile Club headquarters in Norco, CA on Oct. 18, 2014 at 7:00am and finishes some time the next day at the Santa Monica Pier. There is a 30-hour time limit for this course. All proceeds go to the 100 Mile Club charity. The 100 Mile Club challenges kids to run (or walk) 100 miles in a school year. Beyond its importance, this is a fun event! And, the runners are always very appreciative for the help they receive at the aid stations.

Because of the strenuous nature of this event, we need to look out for a variety of issues. Runners can drink too much water causing a condition called hyponatremia. Runners can drink too little water and suffer from dehydration. It can be hot in October and thus some runners start to show symptoms of heat exhaustion. Runners who run 100-mile races are normally very in tune with their bodies, but a 100-mile event will can push anyone to the limit. When a runner is in trouble, it is usually obvious. We prefer to have trained professional at each of the three aid stations to help the runner make an informed decision about whether or not to continue. With the right support, weary runners decide to continue the race after a short break and some food and/or water. If you are a medical professional, we would be honored to have your help. Mission Statement

Our mission is to spark a physical activity revolution across the United States by creating low-cost, family-friendly running and walking events that appeal to all ages, especially today's youth.

Description

We are a mission-driven organization who aims to have large-scale, positive health outcomes in the communities in which we operate. If some path will result in a greater impact in terms of the number of participants and/or the amount of good we do, we will favor this course of action. This includes our events or the amount of money we raise for our charity partner. If forced to choose, we weigh the impact of children higher than adults.

Our organization is volunteer run. While we do pay the Race Director a small stipend to maintain continuity, nearly everyone else is an unpaid volunteer. We seek to create a win-win environment where staff volunteers and interns can learn and grow in skills and experience with a time commitment as little as 2-4 hours/week. We specifically look for folks who want to give back, those who believe in our cause and those that with benefit in other ways outside of monetary compensation. We will write a recommendation letter after 90 days of satisfactory work.

Our events are built around the local community. The name of the event includes the name of the city where it is held, and we hire a local and race director. We partner with local businesses to finance our event. We also partner with a local charity for race-day volunteers and to receive funds raised.
