PLEASE NOTE: We have finished training and placing ESOL tutors who will teach English classes this semester (Spring 2017). If you are interested in placing your name on a wait list for next semester, please respond to this listing. We will contact you closer to the volunteer orientation dates, which will be in August 2017.
If you or someone you know would like to get involved with volunteer tutoring non-native English speakers, then please email volunteer@durhamliteracy.org or call (919) 489-8383.
Commitment: Teach one day a week for two hours with a co-teacher. All of our classes meet between 6:00 - 8:00 pm, 6:30 - 8:30 pm, or 9:00 - 11:00 am, Monday through Thursday. (Most openings are in the evening.)
Tutors do not need to have prior experience in teaching to become involved in this work. ESOL staff will train all tutors during the required 12-hour training series, which takes place in January.

Description
The DLC provides direct individual and small group instruction in reading, writing, English language, and computer skills to adults and families seeking to improve their education and/or move toward economic self-suffiency. We partner with a number of social service, health, education, and workforce-related organizations and agencies to meet the diverse needs of the Durham community.
