During the holiday season, we at The Salvation Army are extremely busy with all of our Christmas Programs including Toys For Tots, Food For Families, Adopt-A-Family, and Angel Tree. During this time we are in dire need of volunteers to assist with these programs.
I am currently seeking volunteers to assist with our sign up process for Toys For Tots. This involves brief face to face interaction with clients through completing a short application to screen them for eligibility. Volunteers may also be assigned to giving out appointment times, writing gift suggestions on Angel Tags, or inputting information into our database. We feel that this is a positive experience for volunteers as they are able to spend time interacting with diverse clientele who find themselves in need during this holiday season while earning volunteer hours. The times of the sign up are as follows:
-October 20-23: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
-October 27-30: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
-October 22: 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
You can volunteer individually or as a group. We ask that each volunteer stay for a minimum of two hours, however you can, and are encouraged to, stay for longer if you wish. Lunch is provided for all individuals.
Additional Information:
The sign up will take place at our main office at 2030 N. Carolina St, Saginaw, MI 48602. If you leave the SVSU campus and go down Bay Rd toward State St, you will take a left onto State St and then follow that down to the yellow blinking light and take a right onto N. Carolina St. The sign up will take place in the brick building and you will come in the back entrance, which will lead right into the church where we do our sign up. Parking will be limited because of the many people who will be there to sign up. As far as attire, you can wear casual clothing. There will be a short training that will take place prior to beginning your shift.

At The Salvation Army, donating your time can go a long way towards helping your community. Throughout the year we provide many resources to those in need including food, personal items, clothing, toys, and bill assistance. During Christmas we are able to provide toys and food vouchers to thousands of families and individuals. Our major fundraising is done through our Red Kettle Christmas Campaign, otherwise known as Bell Ringing. In 2013, we were able to provide over 1500 vouchers for Christmas dinners and gave presents to over 2900 children, who would have otherwise gone without. For 2014, our Kettle Campaign goal is $275,000. We can only reach this goal with your help!
