One of the biggest areas in which Northgate READS and

COUNTS students and their families ask for extra support is

with homework. Many of our students look for guidance as

they practice the reading and math skills that they learn

during the school day, while others need extra help with

their organization and study skills.

By volunteering as an Afterschool Homework Coach,

you can give our students the extra support

to successfully and confidently complete their daily

assignments and to take ownership of their learning.

Responsibilities:

As a Homework Coach you will:

• Assist students with reading and math homework.
• Help students during choice time after they have completed their homework.

Time Commitment:

• Volunteers need to commit to at least one day (Monday-Thursday) per week for an entire session.
• Homework help runs on Monday- Thursday afternoons from 4:45-6:00PM.**
• Our after school program will run through June 11th.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Must be consistent, flexible, and patient.
• Able to read fluently and with comprehension.
• Some understanding of diverse cultural and social/economic backgrounds.
• Effective in engaging students, able to adjust to different learning and behavioral needs.
• Must be able to complete background checks.

** This schedule is flexible and it can be shifted to come early and help with homework help set-up.
