Overview: The Volunteer will assist children ages 6-12 with recreational and educational activities. Each volunteer will assist the teachers in structured activities, as well as provide one-on-one instruction to children when necessary

Responsibilities:

  • If needed, guide the student though the assignment and keep them on task. Do not do the work for him/her. Give hints or suggestions as needed.
  • When an assignment is completed, ask if there is an assignment book to check it off in, go on to the next assignment and/or to the next activity.
  • If all the required assignments have been completed check with the Supervisorfor an additional enrichment activity. (Enrichment activities may include but are not limited to: reading, flash cards, games, Internet scavenger hunts, computer activities, etc.)
  • Let the Head Teacher know if the student is not cooperating with you or if the student is aggressive towards other children or if you have to manage difficult behaviors

Requirements:

  • Must be 16 years or older
  • Pass Criminal Record and Child Abuse Background checks
  • Demonstrate an interest in child development
  • Willingness to support the mission of the agency

Time: Monday-Friday 3:30-5:30pm (Sept.-June)

Mission Statement

The mission of the Drueding Center, as an integral part of the Holy Redeemer Health System, is to "Care Comfort and Heal." The Statement of Purpose developed by the management and staff of Drueding Center states: "We must ensure that all of our families have the skills and resources necessary to live independently and reach their individual measures of success."

Description

The Sisters of the Holy Redeemer established Drueding Center in 1987 to provide transitional housing services for homeless women and their children. To date, more than 550 women with 1200 children have benefited from our services. Drueding Center (DC) provides its residents with a comprehensive schedule of on-site services including: intensive case management, life skills training, assistance in finding permanent and secure housing, full-day licensed Childcare with Head Start services and an After School program, Clinical Counseling programs for children and mothers, and Education and Employment services through our adult and child learning centers, including a Youth Services Program for children ages 8-13 and an on-site health clinic. After Care services are provided for any former residents (graduate families) of Drueding Center up to 7 years post residence at our facility.
