Our goal is to assist adults to reach their full potential by helping them improve their literacy skills, including reading, writing, math, computer, life skills, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language(ESL) We assess our learners and enroll them at our First Christian Church location on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-5 pm. Our tutors receive a training session and updates. Our tutors meet twice a week for an hour and a half a session in private spaces provided by local libraries in Richland and Lexington counties in South Carolina. We work with a variety of learners, from beginning readers to ESOL learners, to GED seekers. In addition, we help intellectually-challenged adults gain practical life-skills.

Description
Founded in 1968 as the Greater Columbia Literacy Council, Turning Pages SC has helped over 6,000 adults live easier in a text-based society.
We train tutors, give them no-cost curriculum kits, and assign them to adult learners in need of reading help. Tutor+Learner pairs commit to 24 hours of instruction (one hour sessions, once or twice a week for 12-24 weeks) each round. Tutoring takes place at one of our public partner locations such as a reserved room in the Richland or Lexington County Libraries.
Progress is documented by the tutor weekly and reassessed by Turning Pages after 24 hours of instruction. Consumable workbooks are provided to the Learner are no-cost to them. Turning Pages Tutors volunteer their services.
All administrative systems are cloud-based and mobile, simplifying reporting, form submission and intake.
Our council is led by a 12 member Board of Directors. We are driven and funded by the power and passion of those who believe in literacy.
