The Development Department at Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) is looking for a Special Events Intern to help raise the funds that enable GLAD to meet our mission. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to have an impact on issues of social justice in a very practical way. Join us and learn about or gain further experience in special events fundraising and non-profit development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the annual "Spirit of Justice Award Dinner" on Friday, October 24 in Boston, MA.
    • Follow up with sponsors via phone email
    • Assist in recruiting and tracking volunteers
  • Assist with "day-of" logistics for local events
    • Track RSVP’s in Raiser’s Edge Database
    • Prepare materials such as programs and nametags
    • Assist in set-up and break-down
    • Provide registration support
  • General development database tasks
    • Donor research
    • Data "clean-up"
    • Donor acknowledgement mailings

All interns will receive extensive training in the Raiser’s Edge database and may assist with other projects determined by the Special Events Coordinator and Database Manager.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to work in non-profit development and preferably some background in an administrative office setting. The ability to take direction, show initiative and follow through in a dynamic environment is a must. Excellent attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions are also critical.

Compensation

This is a part-time (20hr/week), unpaid internship. Time commitment is relatively flexible, ideally intern would begin in mid-September and stay through the end of the year. Hours are flexible but some evenings are required, specifically October 1 and October 24. There are also short-term projects available.

GLAD is legal organization doing impact litigation and education around the issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and AIDS/HIV status in the six New England states. GLAD has a staff of 11, including 3 litigating attorneys. GLAD has argued cases before the Unites States Supreme Court two times. Annually, GLAD assists over 3,000 individuals through a New England wide, toll free information hotline. GLAD has been making civil rights history since 1978.
