ORGANIZATION: The Restoration House

We are looking for someone with the expertise and equipment to help us shoot and produce a time-lapse video of our current construction project. The Village is a 24 unit community for low-income single mother families that will be under construction at the start of October 2014. It will be a 6 month build and we need someone to help us tell the story of the build using time-lapse.

About The Restoration House

Location:

8912 Town and Country Circle, Suite 2, Knoxville, TN 37923, US

Mission Statement

Our Purpose: The Restoration House exists to help restore single mothers and their children back to God's good intent for their lives.

Our Mission: The purpose of The Restoration House is accomplished by providing supportive transitional housing and mentorship in a safe learning environment where single mothers and their children are given an opportunity to restore Life's Four Key Relationships through a personalized, guided plan.

Life's Four Key Relationships:
  • God - Our relationship with God is the central relationship that affects all others.
  • Self - God desires for us to view ourselves as He does; as created by Him and in His own image.
  • Others - God desires for us to love our neighbors as ourselves.
  • Creation - God desires for us to act responsibly toward His creation; He calls us to be good stewards of all that He gives us.

Description

There are three elements to our strategy for restoration. They are housing, mentoring, and service planning. Each element is crucial in the success of our single mother families.

The Restoration House families, staff, mentors, and partners all interact within these three elements.

Housing: TRH provides a transitional housing unit to each participating family. When necessary, TRH provides rental assistance on a decreasing scale for approximately twelve to eighteen months based on the participant's needs.

  • Each mother participates in instructional courses to aid in the development of financial literacy as well as family budgeting.
  • Churches sponsor single-mother families by providing furniture and unit renovations as needed.
  • TRH partners with other organizations to assist in securing permanent housing for participants when their stay at TRH concludes. Homeownership will be encouraged for qualified families.

Team Mentoring: A Restoration House staff support couple lives in each apartment building. Staff support couples' responsibilities include the encouragement of a healthy community dynamic within the apartment complex. Support couples will also provide social opportunities for the mentee families to interact and build strong relationships.

In addition to the support couple, local churches provide a diverse group of 8 to 12 mentors to walk alongside each mentee family.

The mentor group provides emotional support throughout the service period and beyond. Having a diverse group of mentors allows for a broader spectrum of support. The support couples and mentors are crucial components contributing to the success of participating families.

Family Advocacy: The Restoration House coordinates service planning. A contract is signed by the family outlining the basic limitations and expectations of the program. TRH develops an individualized service agreement with the participant identifying goals and action steps in areas such as employment, finances, life skills, and personal growth. Additionally, TRH partners, on an as-needed basis, with community resources for job training, counseling, life skills, physical fitness, IDAs etc.,.
