Looking for a few good men and women!

We recruit volunteer boats who donate time, fuel and know-how to host Troops onboard and go fishing! (hopefully catching!)

In addition to more boaters, we need land based volunteers to help with a variety of tasks including:

• Docking boats, coordinating Troops to boat locations.
• Communications and boat tracking.
• Early morning Troop sign in.
• Afternoon relief of morning crew.
• Cleaning fish for the Troops (if you know how)
• Media help like pictures, video, interviews, etc.
• Food preparation and serving.
• Setup and tar down tables, chairs, etc.
• Help with family activities such as boat rides, kids fishing, carriage rides, bounce house, popcorn,, etc.
• Island and tour guides, and general volunteers.

WE NEED YOU! If you are local please spread the word, talk to tackle shops, marinas, boat dealers, etc. to help us get the word out.

We need donations too, all funds go directly to the event, there are no paid positions, and no one takes any kind of salary. Military Appreciation Day Inc is 100% funded by people like you reading this.

We currently have 70 boats and are looking for more to take the over 600 Troops we have on the waiting list.

Schedule of events:

Volunteer and Captains meeting, Friday May 29th at Jaycee Park located at 807 Shepard Street, 5:30 pm. We will discus fishing reports, sign the Captains and boats in, get last minute info corrected, distribute T-shirts and Captains goodie bags, then EAT! That's righ you get a t-shirt and we feed you!

Saturday May 30th, we need several waves of volunteers, one in the early, early light like around 4:30 am. We will be setting up a few items to check in Troops to their boats, and get them to the right one when they arrive. This will all be over by 7:30 am or so, we'll try to have coffee and some doughnuts for everyone.

At 9 am we will start our family activities and then only monitor the radio for boater updates and then around 2 pm or so the boats will start coming back and we'll need the relief volunteer afternoon crew docking them, offloading Troops and fish, and help them get the fish cleaned.

Then, yes, we feed you again! Starting at 5 we serve (need servers) the best southern style food you will ever have for free! Around 7-8 pm we will start tearing down tables and fold the chairs so the rental company can pickup on Monday. We'll need help with food/dish cleanup as well.

It's a really fun time for all and once you help us once, you'll be "hooked" too!
