Description

Foster Care Children, At-Risk Youth, and Veterans

Fathers and Mothers Who Care (FMWC ) is a social service agency in this county servingthe needs of families at risk. We recently acquired a building but it needs major repairs and renovations to comply with city building codes because we had a fire. A huge fire which destroyed the site for our Resource and Veterans Housing Center and without your support it will be hard for us to rebuild.

In 2009, Argyle Prevost, President of FMWC, who served in the war in Iraq, discovered firsthand the huge numbers veterans who were homeless, unemployed and with very few resources. These veterans faced some of the same challenges as the formally incarcerated. To help eradicate this problem, FMWC developed a referral and support system to help Veterans start their own businesses. By providing this connection back to society, FMWC restores pride, gives hope, and helps to reconnect Veterans to their families and communities.

In 2012, in an effort to provide economical empowerment, FMWC expanded its program to include adult literacy, financial literacy, and basic computer skills.

WE STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT EDUCATION AND OPPORTUNITY WILL BRIGHTEN OUR FUTURE AMERICANS

Our Other Services include:

* Do Blue...........Men's Cancer Awareness Project

* What If...........Exposing Green Technology through the S.T.E.A.M. School Program

* Fundraising ...Weekly BBQ and Clothing Drive

The following year in 2013, FMWC began negotiations to purchase the property located at 10975 S. Vermont Ave., LA, CA., in an attempt to provide affordable housing to Veterans and Ex-Felons, and a much needed Resource Center.

The Resource Center would offer a full range of supports and services, case management, including pre-employment services (job seeking skills and job readiness), job placement, job retention services, and job coaching. The goal is to restore hope, encourage and uplift our discouraged Veterans and Ex-Felons through the sense of pride, satisfaction and self-worth that comes from earning real wages from meaningful careers.

On December 30, 2013 at approximately 2:00a.m. we received a frightening phone call informing us that our building was on fire. Please click on the links below to see actual Footage.

We were devastated. A four alarm fire completely destroyed the site for the residential housing Center. Investigation results concluded that we were victims of arson.

The individual involved was jailed. Unfortunately there was no insurance on the property at the time and since then; we have been operating solely on private contributions and fundraisers.
