Ten Thousand Villages is a fair trade, nonprofit organization that relies on volunteers to help staff the store. We love our volunteers. They help the store run smoothly and share our mission and artisan stories with customers. Volunteer opportunities range from ringing up customers and unpacking shipments, to working at offsite sales in our community. There are a number of things for volunteers to do and we work with you to find your best fit. Volunteers can choose 2 to 3 hour shifts per day and number of days are flexible per month. Our volunteers also receive a discount that does not affect our artisans as they have been fully paid before they send us their products.

Ten Thousand Villages does business differently than typical retailers. Our artisan investment model puts the maker first and is built on long-term partnerships and fair trade principles. It is designed to provide makers in developing countries opportunity to gain a safety net of financial security and break the cycle of poverty.
