It starts with you. Currently 1 in 68 children will be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder this year. Autism is a condition characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts. Our peers with autism need our help in making the connection. Stand up and be the change today.
DEFINITIONS:
-"Ally" or "ALLIES"- Our absolutely amazing Peer Mentors!
-"MCs"- Our super students getting mentored a.k.a. Magnificent Children
-Used in a sentence: "I am an Ally at AYA and all of the Allies work with super cool MCs!"

BENEFITS OF BECOMING AN ALLY:
Allies also benefit from the Ally/MC relationship! Allies develop friendships through their participation in mentoring programs and usually derive satisfaction from helping a younger student, and possibly shaping his or her life in a positive way.
OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM:
Complete online training.
- Attend a mandatory First Mentor Meeting.
- Staff and Allies coordinate a first meeting with the MC’s Family.
- Family and Allies coordinate weekly or biweekly meetings between the Ally and MC.

COMMITMENT TO THE PROGRAM
- One (1) hour every week or every other week.
- One (1) school year commitment is preferable.
