ORGANIZATION: BUILD

Did you know that in just 20 hours you could use your graphic design skills to:

  • Assist a non-profit
  • Support your community, and
  • Impact the lives of Bay Area youth

Become a pro-bono design partner with BUILD this fall and share your graphic design experience and expertise with our entrepreneurial high school students as they build a business.

ABOUT US: BUILD is an innovative and successful college readiness non-profit organization. Through entrepreneurship based, experiential learning, BUILD ignites the potential of youth from under-resourced communities and equips them for high school, college and career success. By helping students develop and run their own small businesses, BUILD supplements traditional school with critical skill-building for the future.

ABOUT YOU: As a pro-bono graphic design partner you will provide our students with real-world, hands on experience as they work with you to develop their brand. Students will present you with their ideas for their brand, and you will have the opportunity to work with them to brainstorm the right logo for their business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a graphic designer for a student business team
  • Create 3-4 logos for the students to choose from
  • Meet with students to discuss the logos that were created and students will have the opportunity to provide feedback and input (meetings can be done in person or virtually)
  • Email students the revised logos and students will choose one logo for their business
  • Design a business card for the students using the logo that students have chosen

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Professional graphic design experience

COMMITMENT:

  • Begin: Mid-October
  • End: Mid-November
  • The total time commitment between mid-October and mid-November is approximately 20 hours

  • Downtown Oakland 1212 Broadway, Oakland
  • East Oakland 433 Hegenberger Rd, Oakland

Description

BUILD is supporting six LAUSD schools with the delivery of our business and entrepreneurship curriculum. Throughout the school year students will learn design thinking, form business teams, and develop an advanced prototype of a product to sell! BUILD recruiting volunteer business team mentors to support students as they form their business teams. Business team mentors are professional mentors who support and motivate a youth business team, provide recommendations for a company's vision, growth, and goals for the year, and build strong relationships with students. The volunteer commitment entails attending attend 10 class sessions throughout the second semester of the school year, 2 in person, 8 virtually.
