Our passion, your quality of life

Basic function: The Illinois Volunteer Money Management Program provides seniors and dependent adults assistance with their finances for a variety of reasons; physical impairments, vision loss, memory issues, or financial exploitation.

Basic responsibilities: As a volunteer you may help a person avoid late fees and overdrafts fees, assist with budgeting and help someone break the cycle of short-term high interest loans. By being a regular presence and providing financial oversight, you may help prevent someone from becoming a target for financial exploitation.
Typical volunteer tasks include: Writing checks and paying bills; reading mail and filing important documents; budgeting and tracking expenses; reconciling the check register

Requirements: Complete initial orientation/training and attend periodic meetings of volunteers. Maintain confidentiality concerning circumstances of assigned client, discussing their circumstances only with program staff. Visit the client at least monthly on a scheduled basis and at a mutually convenient time. Perform bill tasks, such as: organizing client's bills, writing checks for signature, and balancing the client's checkbook. Complete and submit monthly reports to the area's Money Management Coordinator. Notify the Money Management Coordinator, in a timely manner, of any problems with the assignments or planned absences from the program.

Most Money Management volunteers devote 2-3 hours a month of their time to the program. Program Coordinators provide initial training and ongoing support. Alternatives for the Older Adult provides liability insurance for the protection of both program participants and volunteers.

Qualifications: All potential volunteers are subject to a criminal background and credit check.
